Ashley Moody’s MAGA Extremism Is Leading to Skyrocketing Health Costs – and Caused Federal Shutdown

Florida’s appointed Senator, MAGA Republican Ashley Moody, has flat-out refused to address the rising costs of healthcare – directly contributing to the current government shutdown. If Republicans including Moody don’t act immediately, thousands of Floridians will be slammed with devastating premium hikes.
“Accidental Senator Ashley Moody has consistently sided with corporate donors and been more worried about sucking up to Donald Trump than she has been about Floridians or lowering the cost of living,” said Out of the Swamp PAC’s executive director Gabrielle Adekunle. “Now, Floridians are paying the price, and thousands of Floridians will lose access to affordable healthcare.”
Ashley Moody’s record makes it painfully clear she can’t be trusted when it comes to protecting Floridians’ health care or lowering the cost of living. Instead of standing up for Floridians, Moody has repeatedly sided with corporate interests, weakening accountability for insurers, drug companies, and politicians who put profits over people.
Additionally, Congress had multiple opportunities to extend these enhanced subsidies that help millions afford coverage, including during the "Big Beautiful Bill" signed into law in July. Lawmakers failed to act and if they don’t pass new legislation soon, families will face painful and dangerous premium hikes.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office warns that without renewing enhanced premium tax credits:
4 million more Americans could lose coverage by 2034
In Florida, the average premium cost for enrollees receiving financial assistance is projected to surge by 132 percent, or $521 annually
Estimated increase in the uninsured population due to the OBBBA and the expiration of the ACA’s enhanced premium tax credits in Florida is 1,490,000 annually.
