December 10, 2025 — Democrats achieved a major victory in Miami’s mayor race last night, marking one of the strongest signs yet of a shifting political landscape ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Democrat Eileen Higgins defeated the Trump-backed Republican candidate in Miami’s mayor’s race by 19 points. This margin represents an unprecedented blowout in a city that had not elected a Democrat in nearly three decades.

Elsewhere in Florida, Democrats overperformed in two special election seats — including a blowout win for Democrat Rob Long in District 90, representing Palm Beach County.

“Yesterday’s election results demonstrate a shift in Florida politics,” said Out of the Swamp PAC Executive Director Gabrielle Adekunle. “Miami hasn’t elected a Democratic mayor in nearly 30 years. But the ground is shifting. It’s time for Democrats to get serious about taking back Florida. The U.S. Senate race against Ashley Moody - who no one has ever heard of or elected - is the next prime opportunity.”

Momentum isn’t limited to Florida. In Georgia, voters delivered another surprise outcome, Democrat Eric Gisler defeated Republican Mack “Dutch” Guest with 50.85% of the vote. The district had been solidly Republican in 2024, making this flip another notable sign of shifting voter sentiment heading into 2026.

Launched earlier this year to give Floridians a better choice, Out of the Swamp PAC views Ashley Moody as a uniquely vulnerable target as she prepares to face voters for the first time as a Senator. Out of the Swamp PAC will continue scaling up digital efforts as 2026 approaches, softening the ground for Democrats to take on Moody. Recently the PAC announced its first buy and released two ads.
